How does your garden grow? This is how mine grows...

I went out and cleaned up a lot of mess outside this morning.  For the past few days I have been taking my time to clean up the dead leaves from the pots I brought outside from the garage.  The good thing is, it looks like Houston will no longer have any more freezes (at least that's what THEY say).

I will begin to post photos of how my garden grows.  Already I am beginning to see growth from my plants -- it doesn't take long here in Houston.  It's almost like they are on steroids.

Here you can see how measly the foliage in the pots are. I had to cut them all way back. Most will survive, but some will not. I'm waiting to see...

Before cleanup
After cleanup (sort of -- still in progress)

Here are some plants already showing some growth (woo hoo!)

Willow Tree "growthing"

Stay tuned to see the progress!

I know it's Spring because my hair is no longer a static mess...

..and my friend Lynne says that now she will no longer look to the ground hog, but to my hair to determine the change of season.

And NOW the REAL work begins...

Well, it didn't work out quite the way I wanted.  I was expecting this winter to be a lot warmer (that's what they said -- whoever THEY are) and so I really wasn't quite prepared.  I thought I was, and thought that my nifty set-up with the tarps would work like a charm.  Not that it didn't work -- they DID help when the temps were just below freezing, and even down to about 28 or so.  But, when the weather dipped into the low 20's, the long cold nights, over and over and over again, were just too much for my lovely blue tarps.  My Boyrfriend and I eventually had to move the pots into the garage --- those that survived the cold streak, anyway.

J-GQ and the Codemeister (a family friend) moved the plants back outside for me -- that was a task.  So, now my work has begun to clean up the yard, relocate my pots, replant into those pots where the plants did not survive, and watch my babies grow again!  I lost a few plants -- and the palms I left outside are FRIED.

But, I have complete confidence in my Creator, that his Law of Life will continue and the beauty will be reborn. He's pretty good at that reborn stuff.

I'll keep you posted with the progress!

Cancelled -- for NOTHING!

Icey table.  Dead plant.
There's going to be some mighty disappointed kiddos in the Houston area this morning when they wake up to find out that school was cancelled for NOTHING.  At least, that is what they will think.  Believing they would be waking up to find a wonderful layer of snow on the ground, all they will find is what looks like a remnant of rain..when in reality it is ice.

In Houston this morning, according the the Houston Chronicle, there were 100 wrecks in 4 hours!  Only in Houston.  People here don't know how to drive in the ice and cold, so they shouldn't even try.

I'm kinda tired of looking at these tarps....
Plants are dying everywhere.  I'm not sure I want to even look under my tarps outside.  I think that even with those I will lose a bunch of plants.  You think that with the cold at least the kids could have some fun and play in the snow.

But, alas.  There is no snow.  Not this time, anyway.  Let's just hope everyone stays warm and safe.  And, stays off the road.

Snow in Houston.....AGAIN???

I  was hoping it wouldn't happen...it looked like we would escape it.  The dreaded HARD FREEZE!

But, it looks like for Houston we'll be getting down to 21 degrees for the next 3 or 4 nights.  I'm doing the whole winterizing thing, but not sure if it's going to cut it with that type of cold.  PLUS, for the 2nd time in 2 years we may get SNOW on Friday!  Unbelievable to me...but, it might be a lot of fun for the kids!

So, my Boyfriend took the most vulnerable plants into the garage last night, and we'll have to tie up the tarps again to cover the remaining pots that will be exposed to the elements.  (See previous posts on "winterizing".) I'd help him, but I've got one humdinger of a cold and can hardly get off this couch.  The most painful one I've ever had.  I guess everything's big in Texas.

Let's hope this cold front isn't so big that it puts Texas out of commission.  I'll keep you posted!
