The Passion Flower (Passiflora)

I am SO glad that I got my first blooms of the Passion Flower came out this morning!  This is one of my most favorite flowers of all.

The Passion Flower (or Passiflora) is the plant from which the Passion Fruit is born.  It is called the "Passion" flower because it is refering to the passion of Jesus.   Here is a quote from Wikipedia:  "Spanish Christian missionaries adopted the unique physical structures of this plant, particularly the numbers of its various flower parts, as symbols of the last days of Jesus and especially his crucifixion."

Enjoy the views I have posted of these beautiful flowers!

Hi T.K.,
this passion flower is just gorgeous.
How big does it grow and what would be the best spot to plant it - shady, partly shade or full sun?
I have never had one of them.
Regards
Paula Jo

Hi, Paula Jo! This like full sun, but can take partly shade. It can cover a pretty long fence during the year, but freezes back and comes back quickly. If you would like, I can send you a rooting of it. It can send out shoots into the lawn (which I don't mind -- they just get mowed up, or I pull them up for friends) and shoots elsewhere, but I have never found them to be a nuisance. The more of these I have, the better! If you don't want them to come up other than where they are planted, you can put them in a pot, which is where these are planted and cover my lattice. My favorite!

Would you like me to send you a shoot? If so, send me an email with your address and I will be more than happy to do so!

Hello T.K.,
I would like to apologize for not responding sooner. I have been very busy for the last 2 weeks with some family issues. I appreciate your offer of sending me one the passion flower rooting and have thought about where I maybe could plant it.
I got all my planting done for this year and can not come up with a good spot for it but T.K., I will remember your offer and might take use of it at another time.
Once again thank you very much
Happy Gardening :)

Hey, Paula Jo! I'm sorry to hear about your family issues! And, I understand about getting your planting DONE. Yes, let me know in the future if you would like a cutting. They are great for pots, too.

Talk to you soon!
