A Chick Does Tropical Garden

My Sitting Area

This is my Tropical Garden.  Well, at least part of it.  This is one of my "sitting areas". This is where I do all my gardening "cyphering".  As I look at the garden I determine that I want something THERE...but I may not know exactly what.  It just has to 1)  Be tropical, 2) Have great folliage 3)  Flower at some point 4) Be a palm tree or 5) Be bamboo.

I LOVE bamboo and palm trees.  In fact, my first name means "Palm Tree".  Must have gotten into my blood when I was named. (My last name doesn't mean "Bamboo", though.)  I love the majesty of the palm trees, the ruggedness and texture of bamboo and the vibrant color of the tropical plants.

I've always wanted a garden that looked like a tropical jungle.  Of course, living in Seattle all of my life, that was somewhat impossible.  But now that I live in the Houston area, that dream has become a reality.  The funny thing of it is, though, that many of the plants that we grow in Houston CAN actually be grown in Seattle, as well.  Even though Seattle doesn't have the heat, it also doesn't freeze as badly as other areas in the States.  The lows in Houston and Seattle are not different from each other.  However, plants have to be EXTREMELY hardy to handle the Houston summers and humidity.  Many of the tropicals THRIVE in this type of weather.  Hopefully I can relate through this blog how and why I grow those that I am growing.  At least I'll have a go at it!

Another "Sitting Area"

So, here I sit...cyphering, cyphering, cyphering....to see what I'll come up with next!
